Temat: Self Defense / Martial Arts Training
Hey comrades,
Just wondering if anyone of you antifas on here have experience with self-defense / Martial Arts training, either as individualr or as a group and would like to share some thoughts with us (ARA Toronto)
Currently we have ARA Toronto members enrolled in "Krav Maga" and "Systema" training.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krav_Magahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SystemaThrough research we have come to the conclusion that these would be the two most useful arts to learn as a beggining, as they teach you "street" based techniques from the get-go, i.e. multipul attackers, knife attackers, fighting in closed areas (bus, airplane) and using everyday items as weapons (umbrellas, pieces of a chair, etc). We also see potential in learning Filippino Martial Arts (FMA/Arnis/Kali) which teach you weapons first, then progress to teaching you bare hands against weapons; Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) (like you see on UFC), Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee's philosophy which is ment to constantly progress and includes kickboxing, FMA, jiu-jitsu, Win Chun, Savat, Fenching, and other styles), and Muay Thai (Thai Boxing, which takes more dedication).
We are hoping in the future that various people in our chapter will have different styles under their belts (we are signing up to different schools in twos) and we hope to use fund raising to get our members in who can't afford to pay on their own. The long term goal is that we can start teaching our members ourselves.
Again, if there is any experience with this sort of thing, I would love to hear. If you don't feel comfortable talking over the list send me an e-mail.
Cormadely,
