Well since the IWCA Benefit gig has been announced there has been plenty of talk from people on what a brilliant day it's going to be. Of course they're right and with a line up as strong as this who can blame people for talking about it?
I got it wrong in the last issue. The idea for the gig came a guy called 'M' and he's in the process of putting together a RASH CD together so more news on that when it comes in. From what I know he's not very good at Tiddly Winks or Ludo though them reports have still to be confirmed!
The tickets can now be purchased on line at FFRUK by going to the 'EVENTS SECTION'. If you want to purchase the tickets in London please go to 'ALL AGES RECORDS' in Camden where they can be purchased.
All the bands are well up for it and from what I hear/read people have enjoyed seeing The Angelic Upstarts and The Oppressed back in action again. I can't wait to see both bands either. The IWCA gig will be the first time they've shared a stage together.
As I said in the first bulletin I was going to feature various bands on the line up and some it's been really hard to track as their sites are down! Typical really making my job harder!!!
Brand new `back to the Oi! roots' album from one of the scene's longest surviving (and ugliest!) bands. Produced by the Cockney Rejects Micky Geggus and featuring guest vocals from The Business's Micky Fitz and guitar from Toy Dolls Olga. Great no nonsense heads down Rock N Oi!
For me they were probably the best band on 'No Future' and I still enjoy their debut album 'We've Got The Power' to this day. This is a band on the night who have blown manier bands away and will be a hard act to follow.
Like Mensi from The Upstarts they have poor taste in football teams too!
These guys just played with The Oppressed in Dublin the other night and went down a storm. I haven't heard much from these guys since their debut album a few years back and if that's anything to go by then they're well worth checking out!
Straight from the cutting edge of the new ska movement come the Splitters from Leicester. This 7 piece outfit's distinctive style draws heavy influence from the original Jamaican ska sound of the 1960's & fuses it with a contemporary British feel reflecting the band members' experiences & personalities.
The result of all this shenanigans is a bouncy uplifting trad ska & reggae sound that appeals to a wide audience range. Vocally Ted's tuneful harmonies sit comfortably above the warmly rasping bark of mohawk-sporting frontman Braidley.
The Splitters' horn section of Tom & Steve boasts a wide variety of special dance moves & brassy tricks, while the dual guitar presence of Ted & Al compliments the rock solid rhythm foundation laid down by Fez on drums & bassist Jay.
In the live arena the Splitters have toured all over the UK, as well as making several trips to Ireland, Belgium & Holland. The band's debut self titled album, second album "International Smugglers" & "Look Away" CD single were all put out on the Splitters' own Blue Line Order label. The Splitters' 3rd CD album, titled "Good Time Trouble", was released by Do The Dog Music in December 2004.
When large gigs like this happen there just seems a million bands always wanting to get on the line up and after hearing some stuff from this Glasgow band they're well worthy of their place. Well played powerful music is always the order of the day and United Front do it with style!
Look out for a 'United Front' interview on FFRUK in the not too distant future.
Some of you have asked what the IWCA are about so please follow the link below:
Well that's it for another issue. If you want to catch up with Mensi from The Angelic Upstarts you will find him, I and others being hunted by the Daventry and Knighton Mafia on his Guest Book. For a Guest Book there's more excitement than your fave soap so pop along to the Angelic Upstarts SITE to join in the fun!
